How is it done?

We assess your suitability for this treatment.

You may need some pre- procedure preparation depending upon the result of this analysis, which could involve the use of the right skincare products.

The treatment involves the use of numbing cream.

After ensuring your skin is adequately numbed, a pen is passed on your skin, which has on its end, multiple needles, that vertically pierce the skin to a preset depth depending on the area being treated.

This enhances rejuvenation results and is far safer because there is much less epidermal damage.

How does it work?

Collagen production results from wounding of the skin, even though the wounds are miniscule.

Each tiny wound goes through three classic phases of wound healing:

1. Inflammation
2. Proliferation (tissue formation)
3. Tissue remodeling

The needle only penetrates through the epidermis (superficial layer of the skin) and does not remove it, so the epidermis is only punctured and the puncture closes in minutes and will heal.

The injury, minute as it might seem, does cause some localised damage and bleeding.

The needle pricks penetrate into the dermis (deeper layer of the skin) and starts the inflammation phase.

Tiny blood vessels are ruptured so blood cells and serum get into the surrounding tissue.

A complex chemical cascade determines the formation of a clot, and many different blood components come into the clot area, including platelets and fibroblasts.

Platelets cause clotting and release ‘Growth Factors’.

This reaction is automatic and produces a surge of activity that inevitably leads to the Fibroblasts being “instructed” to produce more collagen and more elastin.

Collagen slowly shortens after a few months and so the tightening of the skin is progressive over the next few months.

The results can mimic those obtained with a laser, but without destroying the epidermis.

That is the great advantage of the system. It is believed that the deeper the penetration into the dermis produces better collagen and elastin deposition.

More Collagen Type I develops over a period of a year or more. This gives increased tensile strength but elasticity may begin to suffer again.

The automatic vibrating function of the Derma FNS increases the effectiveness of treatment by increasing absorption of products, whilst reducing pain & discomfort can be as effective as ablative treatments such as Fraxel, IPL, Laser Resurfacing, and Chemical Peels.

You may need additional products such as skin boosters which are applied onto your face immediately after, or other skin condition specific products which we can discuss with you at your consultation.
